GFC vs PRP for Hair Loss: Which Is Better for You?

GFC vs PRP for hair loss — how each treatment works

If you are researching hair fall treatment, you have probably seen two terms: PRP and GFC. Both use your own blood to stimulate hair follicles, and both are popular in Ahmedabad. But they are not identical. Here is a clear, honest comparison of GFC vs PRP for hair loss.

What is PRP?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is prepared by drawing a small amount of blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. Platelets contain growth factors that help revive weakening hair follicles. The concentrated plasma is then injected into thinning areas of the scalp. Read our detailed guide to PRP results and sessions.

What is GFC?

GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) is a refinement of the same idea. Blood is collected in special tubes and processed so that the platelets release their growth factors before injection. The final solution contains a concentrated mix of growth factors, with fewer other blood components.

GFC vs PRP: key differences

  • Preparation: PRP injects platelets that release growth factors in the scalp; GFC injects growth factors already released and concentrated.
  • Composition: GFC contains fewer red and white blood cells, which some patients find more comfortable.
  • Discomfort: GFC sessions are often reported to be slightly less uncomfortable, though both are done with numbing.
  • Evidence: PRP has a larger body of published research. GFC is newer, and evidence is promising but still growing.
  • Cost: GFC kits are typically more expensive than standard PRP.

Who is a good candidate?

Both treatments work best for:

  • Early to moderate male or female pattern hair loss
  • Diffuse thinning and reduced density
  • Shedding after stress, illness or pregnancy, alongside correcting the cause

Neither can regrow hair on areas that have been completely bald and shiny for years — there, a hair transplant may be the better option.

How many sessions do you need?

A typical course is 4–6 sessions spaced about a month apart, followed by maintenance every 4–6 months. Your dermatologist will adjust this depending on your response, measured with standardised photographs.

What to expect during a session

  1. A small blood sample is drawn from your arm.
  2. It is processed into PRP or GFC — this takes 20–40 minutes.
  3. Numbing cream is applied to the scalp.
  4. The solution is injected with fine needles across the thinning area.
  5. You can usually return to work the same day. Avoid washing your hair for a few hours, and avoid the gym and hair colouring for 48 hours.

Which one should you choose?

  • Both can be effective; the bigger factors are your diagnosis, how early you start and whether you combine them with medical treatment.
  • If comfort is a priority and budget allows, GFC is a reasonable choice.
  • If you want the option with the most research behind it, PRP is well established.
  • Either way, combining with prescribed medicines gives better results than injections alone.

Why diagnosis comes first

Hair fall from iron deficiency, thyroid problems or scalp conditions will not fully respond to PRP or GFC until the cause is treated. That is why every plan at our clinic starts with a proper assessment. Read about hair fall in men and hair fall in women, or book at our PRP and GFC clinic in Ahmedabad.

Frequently asked questions

Is GFC better than PRP? +

GFC may be slightly more comfortable and contains concentrated growth factors, but PRP has more research behind it. Both can work well when used for the right patient alongside medical treatment.

How many GFC sessions are needed for hair? +

Usually 4–6 sessions about a month apart, followed by maintenance sessions every 4–6 months.

Is GFC hair treatment painful? +

It involves small injections, but numbing cream keeps discomfort mild. Many patients find it slightly more comfortable than PRP.
