Skin Tags, Warts & Moles: Safe Removal Options in Ahmedabad

Skin tags and small moles on the neck before removal

Skin tags on the neck, warts on the hands or feet, and moles on the face are some of the most common reasons people visit a dermatologist. Most are harmless, and most can be removed quickly and safely in the clinic. Here is a guide to skin tag, wart and mole removal — and why you should never try it at home.

Know the difference

Skin tags

Small, soft, skin-coloured or brown growths that hang from the skin, commonly on the neck, underarms, eyelids and groin. They are harmless and more common with weight gain, diabetes, pregnancy and friction.

Warts

Rough, raised growths caused by a viral infection (HPV). They can appear on hands, feet (plantar warts), face and other areas. Warts are contagious and can spread with scratching or shaving.

Moles

Clusters of pigment cells, flat or raised, usually brown or black. Most are harmless, but a changing mole should always be examined.

DPN (dermatosis papulosa nigra)

Small dark bumps on the cheeks and around the eyes, very common in Indian skin and often confused with moles. They are harmless and can be removed cosmetically.

Clinic removal methods

Radiofrequency (RF) ablation

A fine electrode removes the growth precisely with minimal bleeding. Ideal for skin tags, DPN and many raised moles.

Cryotherapy

Liquid nitrogen freezes warts so they peel away. Several sessions may be needed.

Electrocautery

Controlled heat to remove small growths and stop minor bleeding.

Laser

Selected lesions can be treated with laser, depending on the type and location.

Surgical excision

For moles that look suspicious or need to be sent for laboratory testing, the mole is removed completely and stitched.

What to expect

  • Numbing cream or a small local anaesthetic injection keeps the procedure comfortable.
  • Most procedures take 10–30 minutes, depending on how many lesions are treated.
  • A small scab forms and falls off in 5–10 days.
  • Temporary pink or dark marks fade over weeks; sunscreen speeds this up.
  • You can usually go back to work the same day.

When a mole needs checking — the ABCDE rule

  • Asymmetry — one half does not match the other
  • Border — irregular, blurred or ragged edges
  • Colour — several shades, or changing colour
  • Diameter — larger than about 6 mm
  • Evolving — any change in size, shape, colour, itching or bleeding

If a mole shows any of these, see a dermatologist before removal.

Why you should never remove them at home

  • Tying thread, cutting, burning or applying acids can cause infection, bleeding and scarring.
  • "Wart and mole remover" products can cause chemical burns and dark marks.
  • A suspicious mole removed at home cannot be properly tested.
  • Warts spread easily when picked or cut.

Can they come back?

Removed skin tags do not regrow, but new ones may appear over time. Warts can return because the virus may remain in the skin, so follow-up treatment is sometimes needed. Completely excised moles rarely recur.

Frequently asked questions

Is skin tag removal painful? +

No. Numbing cream or a small local anaesthetic is used, so most people feel only mild pressure or warmth.

Will removing a mole leave a scar? +

Small marks are common at first but usually fade well, especially with sun protection. Surgical excision leaves a fine line scar.

Are warts contagious? +

Yes. Warts are caused by a virus and can spread to other areas of your body or to other people through contact, shaving or picking.
