"Botox" has become shorthand for every injectable — but Botox and fillers are completely different treatments solving completely different problems. Confusing them is how people end up disappointed. Here is the plain-language version.
Botox: softens lines made by movement
Botox relaxes the tiny muscles whose repeated contractions crease the skin — forehead lines, the frown "11s" between the brows, crow's feet. Relax the muscle, and the line softens.
- Best for: dynamic lines (visible when you frown, raise brows, smile).
- Takes effect: 3–4 days, full result at 2 weeks.
- Lasts: 4–6 months.
- Bonus uses: jaw slimming, teeth grinding, excessive sweating.
Fillers: restore volume that time removed
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels that replace lost volume — sunken cheeks, hollow under-eyes, thinning lips, deep smile folds. They don't act on muscles at all; they restore structure.
- Best for: static hollows and folds visible even at rest.
- Takes effect: immediately, settling over 1–2 weeks.
- Lasts: 12–18 months depending on the area.
- Reversible: hyaluronic fillers can be dissolved if ever needed.
The 5-second rule of thumb
- Line appears when your face moves → Botox territory.
- Hollow or fold present when your face is still → filler territory.
- Many faces benefit from a small amount of both — that is normal and, done well, invisible.
How results stay natural
Natural results are about restraint and anatomy — conservative dosing, precise placement, and a physician who will say "you don't need this yet." At our Botox clinic in Ahmedabad, every injectable is administered personally by Dr. Dhwani Shah (Vakta), with a complimentary two-week review to fine-tune.
Safety, briefly
Both treatments have decades of safety data when performed by qualified physicians with genuine products. The horror stories you have seen almost always trace back to untrained injectors and counterfeit product — reason enough to choose a cosmetic dermatologist over a salon.
